10 tips to look stunning without makeup

You'd like to give your foundation, lippy, blusher and mascara a miss. And still be gorgeous in your own nomakeup way... Just follow these handy tips!

TIP
1

Cleansing is THE one way ticket to perfect skin

Cleanse morning and night, paying attention to your eyes, using a texture that suits your skin - micellar water, lotion, oil etc. Gently wipe off any traces of makeup, grime and other impurities accumulated during the day or night. Note: cleansing is non-negotiable!
TIP
2

Purify your skin with a face scrub

Scrubbing brightens the complexion and evens out skin tone after a day facing the elements (pollution, dust, smoke...). A scrub will also kick start your circulation, leaving you with glowing skin. It'll also allow your epidermis to better absorb any treatments you apply. For a flawless finish, slather on a clay face mask to deeply cleanse and detoxify your skin.
TIP
3

Moisturise for peachy soft perfect skin

Follow by applying a good moisturiser suited to your skin type - combination, dry, oily, mature and so forth. Make sure you apply a moisturiser every day to clean, dry skin. Whether your moisturiser is a cream, mask or serum it'll help maintain your cutaneous balance. So moisturise morning and night to avoid ending up with a dull complexion.
TIP
4

An alternative to foundation? A blur + BB cream!

Blur creams are Photoshop in a bottle. They iron out wrinkles and dilated pores, leaving our skin looking lovely and smooth. Apply one before a BB cream for a flawless complexion. As for your BB cream, it'll unify your skin tone whilst moisturising your skin at the same time. Some are formulated to replace foundations and moisturisers. As with a foundation, apply it to the centre of your face and smooth it outwards.

TIP
5

Invest in a translucent, mattifying, loose face powder.

These ultra-fine powders are soft to the touch, stop shine and highlight our facial contours. As they're translucent, they can be applied to all skin colours. They leave us with bright, glowing complexions. Tip: apply your powder as a finishing touch after your BB cream.
TIP
6

Keep your fingers at bay

Even if we regularly wash our hands, they still house bacteria that can be transferred to our faces when we touch our skin. So try not to touch your face to lessen the likelihood of blemishes and spots cropping up!
TIP
7

Get your beauty sleep

Nothing's better for our skin than a good night's sleep, particularly if we're tired and stressed - lifestyle factors that are quick to show on our faces! Try to go to bed at the same time each night, aim for 7 to 8 hours sleep and make sure your bedroom is a relaxing, restful place. If you look a bit groggy in the morning, place the curved side of a cold spoon (you can keep one in the fridge) on any dark circles or bags.
TIP
8

What we eat and drink has a direct impact on our complexion.

To brighten your complexion, pile your plate with foods containing beta-carotene. These fruits and veg can actually give us a slight sun-kissed glow! Avoid saturated fats found in cured meats, fast food and pre-prepared meals. And don't forget to drink at least 1.5l a day to hydrate your skin from the inside. Go for herbal/fruit teas and water; cut down on the booze as it dehydrates and dulls skin.

TIP
9

Enjoy a facial steam

Facial steams can be done at home and have numerous benefits, depending on the essential oils you choose. Start by cleansing and scrubbing your face. Pour some boiling water into a bowl. Add a few drops of essential oils to boost the effect. Cover your head and shoulders with towel and lean over the bowl to steam your face. When done, mist your face with a spritz of thermal water. As your pores will be open, it's the perfect time to apply a face mask. And don't forget to finish off with a moisturiser!

Plumping facial massage

Step 1: put some moisturiser on the back of your (clean) hand but don't warm it up, as the idea is to preserve the active ingredients it contains.
Step 2: with your other hand dab it on to your cheeks, forehead and neck.
Step 3: massage it in using wide circular movements, working out from the centre of your face.
Step 4: smooth it across the rest of your face, again working from the centre out. And there you have it - a fresh, rosy nomakeup glow!
